Cove Thistle captain James Fettes today warned rival clubs his side are back to their best.

The Jags booked their final place at Pittodrie following a fiery 3-2 win over rivals Kincorth in the Aberdeen FC Trophy.

James, 30, was previously ruled out of football for three months before returning to take up his duties as skipper in September.

The talented defender also played for Banks o’ Dee, Banchory and Sunnybank before joining the Jags.
James today admitted he is determined to make Cove a force to be reckoned with for the remainder of the season.

He said: “I was sitting in my house on a Saturday twiddling my thumbs when I couldn’t play.

“We were never the best team to watch but we defend solidly and score goals.

“The league will be between ourselves, Sportsmans and Woodside, so it’s going to be very exciting.

“When we have a full squad there are not many teams who can handle us.

“I can’t wait to see what this season holds for us but this victory is vital to our trophy hopes.”

Former champions Cove have been one of the strongest sides in Amateur football recently, winning last year’s North of Scotland Cup.

Thistle set an Amateur football record by becoming the first Premier Division club to remain unbeaten throughout a single season.
