Peter hoping for luck of the Irish to land silverware

Ellon Amateurs striker Peter Carroll today revealed he hopes to use his Irish flair to shoot down some of the best sides in Amateur football.

The strike ace has recently moved to Aberdeen having played football for Irish Premier Division side Shorts FC.

Peter, who only joined the club last month, has already scored three times in two games. Ellon convincingly defeated Kaimhill United 8-3 in the White Cup to reach their first final in more than four years.

And Peter, who also played football in America, admits he has been impressed with the standard of Amateur football in the North-east.

He said: “I work offshore in Aberdeen now but I really enjoyed my spell playing football in America.

“All the boys in the squad have great banter and we have a good spirit here.

“The atmosphere in our recent win over Kaimhill was quite bad tempered.

“I really hope to have more of those matches as these are the games I thrive in.

“The feeling of winning a cup final in my first season in Aberdeen would be sensational.”

The Aberdeenshire outfit have recently signed former Highland League players Calum Irvine and Atholl Cadger.

Ellon are one of only two teams who are still unbeaten in Division One (East) this season.
They have an impressive history of winning silverware since forming in 2005, clinching the Division Two title in 2010.

Ellon have already picked up a win against Premier Division opposition after defeating Hazlehead 1-0 in the Aberdeen FC Trophy.

The Aberdeenshire side face AC Mill Inn in a crunch top-of-the-table clash at the Meadows on Saturday.

Peter, 28, believes the dramatic turnaround of players shows the club mean business this term.

“Our main aim is to win promotion because we have such a big squad,” he added.

“The main problem may come when boys are unavailable because they are offshore, but hopefully this won’t affect the squad.

“I stay in Bridge of Don so travelling is an issue but it’s worth it.

“The turnaround of players means we have the depth to move on to the next level – and I’m confident we can do that.”

The club have surged up the league table in recent years under the guidance of manager Jim Booth.
Booth is in his second spell with the club after being assistant manager at Junior team Ellon United.
