1st Touch Football Premier Division at Balgownie on Saturday 28th May

University kept their chances of wining the Premier League alive after with a win against Sportsmans at Balgownie. Both teams fielded tired under strength teams and it showed in a poor display.

Uni’ had a chance in the first minute when, in front of goal, Bell put his shot over the bar. Five minutes later Uni’s Lamont’s run ended with his shot hitting the side netting.

Passes were going astray and players were having difficulty controlling the ball in the strong wind. Sportsman’s Mckenzie made a run down the right and fired in a shot that went over the cross bar.

Uni’s David Lawrence made a great run avoiding two tackles, looked up and saw keeper Sutherland advancing towards him and managed to slip the ball under him to put his team ahead in thirty nine minutes.

Minutes later Sportsman’s Masson had a chance but mis hit his shot and put the ball into the keeper’s hands.

Half-time: 1-0

Sportsmans lifted themselves at the start of the second period forcing keeper Sutherland into action several times. On the hour mark Sportsman’s Mckenzie finished off a move by chipping the keeper only to see the ball scrape the outside of the post.

Uni’s McRitchie failed to convert a chance with only the keeper to beat his shot went wide of the upright. Uni were awarded a free kick twenty yards out in the eightieth minute taken by Bell. He bent the ball round the wall and it rebounded off the cross bar and was then cleared upfield.

Uni’ had Sportsmans pinned back in their own half and Lamont, Lawrence and Bell had shots saved by keeper Sutherland. With five minutes left Uni’s Lawrence crossed a perfect ball to Makaravicius who was two yards out in front of an open goal and he skied the ball way over the bar for the miss of the day.

Just on time Makaravicius hit the post with a shot and in added time Sportsman’s Law was sent off for a second yellow card offence.
