Bon Accord Trophies Division One (North) at Mineralwell Park, Stonehaven on Saturday 9th August

A goal in both halves gave AC Mill Inn the three points in this match that was like the weather – dreich.

In two minutes Mill Inn’s Allan had Woodside’s keeper diving to his right to push his shot for a corner. It was Mill Inn’s Reid who put his team a goal up in the eighth minute when he rounded a Woodside defender, looked up and slipped the ball under the advancing keeper. A minute later a poor goal kick from Woodside’s keeper McDonald fell to Mill Inn’s Allan who passed to Scott whose shot went past the post. From there on the play was confined to the middle of the park with both teams giving the ball away with slack passing.

It was not until the thirty minute mark that the game picked up when Mill Inn forced three corners in a minute but did not take advantage of any of them.

Woodside were unlucky when a run down the right by Craig saw his cross miskicked by Mill Inn’s Collie and the loose ball was finally smothered by keeper Lawson with Woodside’s Bruce bearing down on him. With the lack of punch from both sets of forwards the score remained 1-0 at half time.

Half-time: 1-0

Woodside started the second half pushing forward and were awarded a free kick inside Mill Inn’s half. The ball was floated over the heads of the defence and Woodside’s Buchan’s diving header went past the post. In fifty three minutes a Woodside move by Buchan and Bruce gave Craig a shot at goal but keeper Lawson at full stretch managed to push it round the post.

The game was alive now and Mill Inn’s Dunn beat three men in front of goal but a weak shot was held by keeper McDonald. Woodside’s Reid took advantage of a mix up in Mill Inn’s defence but once again keeper Lawson came to the rescue with a fine save. Reid again forced his way through a crowded Mill Inn defence but his shot went over the bar.

In eighty-four minutes a long clearance from Mill Inn’s defence caught out Woodside’s defence who were pushing forward. Mill Inn’s Scott raced through and took advantage of Woodside’s McDonald’s fresh air kick and then side footed the ball into the goal leaving McDonald with a red face.

Woodside kept trying but could not get the break to get them back into the game making the final score 2-0.
