Scottish Amateur Cup Fifth Round Replay at Falkirk on Saturday 13th February

Bon Accord came off the field with their heads held high after a hard fought replay against California. They went three goals down in the first half but fought back to take the lead then lost a goal with three minutes remaining to take the game into extra time.

With just four minutes on the clock Bon Accord’s Scott Craig broke through the defence but his shot hit the post. A minute later it was California’s Graeme Wilson’s turn to put Bon Accord’s keeper under pressure by forcing him to push the ball round the post for a corner.

With eleven minutes gone California’s James Brown had a shot saved by keeper Hill. California were keeping the pressure on Bon Accord’s defence and keeper Hill was in action again in twenty one minutes with a double save from Scobbie and James Brown.

In twenty seven minutes Bon Accord’s Scott Craig was foiled by keeper Morton when he dived at Craig’s feet and pushed the ball away. Two minutes later keeper Hill made a fingertip save pushing the ball over the bar.

California’s pressure paid off in thirty minutes when from a corner California’s Neil Adams rifled in a right foot drive which flew past keeper Hill. Three minutes later from a long throw in California went further ahead when Grant Scobbie headed home. Just before half time California went three up when Rikki Brown headed past keeper Hill.

Half-time: 3-0

Five minutes after the restart a free kick to Bon Accord taken by Harris was headed on by Davidson to Mark Bartlet who beat the keeper from close range. Five minutes later Davidson again won a high ball which found Mark Bartlet who scored his second making the score 3-2.

In fifty seven minutes Bon Accord were level after a run and shot by Darren Redford beat keeper Morton. Four minutes later Bon Accord were ahead when from a corner Mark Bartlet made a run from the edge of the box and volleyed home a hat trick shot.

The pitch was taking its toll with players from both teams going down with cramp causing stoppages in the play. With three minutes left California’s Rikki Brown made a run down the left, crossed to Grant Scobbie who side footed the ball into the net putting the game into extra time.

Full Time: 4-4

At the end of the first period the score remained 4-4. In one hundred and twelve minutes California’s Rikki Brown headed past keeper Hill to make the score 5-4.

A minute later Bon Accord’s Bartlet had the ball in the net but the referee disallowed for a foul on the keeper. Bon Accord were pushing forward looking for the equaliser but were caught out at the back and Grant Scobbie also got a hat trick making the final score 6-4.

Bon Accord’s manager Willie Ross was disappointed at losing the game but said he can now concentrate on winning the Premier League.
