Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup First Round at Newtonhill on Saturday 13th September

Glendale Youth face a long trip to Tongue after beating Cammachmore in the first round of the Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup at Newtonhill.

The tie started on a rain soaked pitch and the mist rolling in from the sea.  With five minutes gone the home team went ahead when a cross from Hay was driven home by Daniel Nugent. Cammachmore were having the better of the play and had the ball in the net again in fifteen minutes but referee Thomson ruled the goal offside.

Glendale Youth slowed the game down and started to push Cammachmore back into their own half and in thirty four minutes after a move involving Henderson and Birnie the ball was given to Napier who volleyed past keeper Ross to level the scores at 1-1.

Cammachmore were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty in forty minutes when Daniel Nugent had his heels clipped as he was heading for goal and lost control of the ball. Nugent was unlucky again when in forty two minutes he chested down a long clearance from his keeper, turned and fired in a shot from eighteen yards from which keeper Robertson made a fine save pushing the ball for a corner.  With a minute to go to half time Glendale Youth went ahead when Chris Milne headed into his own goal under pressure from Murray.

Half-time 1-2

Three minutes into the second half Glendale Youth went further ahead when Andrew Milne’s twenty yard free kick beat keeper Ross.  A minute later Glendale Youth’s Napier had a one on one with keeper Ross who dived to his left pushing the ball for a corner.  Cammachmore’s defence were under constant pressure from Glendale Youth and keeper Ross had to come to the rescue again with a good save from the head of Glendale Youth’s Napier.

Glendale Youth scored again in the seventy fourth minute when Birnie coolly lobbed the ball over keeper Ross making the score 4 – 1.  Both teams were tiring on the heavy cut up pitch and both sides were giving away needlees free kicks.  From a free kick twenty yards out to Glendale Youth, Birnie’s shot was deflected past keeper Ross.  In added time Glendale Youth made it 6 – 1 after sub Matthew ran on to a through ball and gave keeper Ross no chance with a right foot drive.
