North of Scotland Cup Fourth Round at Catto Park on Saturday 19th March

High flying, goal scoring Cove Thistle were too strong for West End and progress into the next round of the North of Scotland Cup.

Apart from West End’s goal and the sending off of West End’s Iain Laidlaw there was not a lot of excitement in the first half.

West End’s first chance came in three minutes when Callum Mollison chipped keeper Greig only to see his effort scrape the wrong side of the post.

In thirty six minutes West End’s Gordon Hardie’s perfect cross was met by Callum Mollison who beat keeper Greig from close range.

On the forty minute mark West End’s Iain Laidlaw was red carded for tripping Cove’s Jordan Hill twenty five yards from goal. No further scoring took place with the half time score 0-1.

From the start of the second half Cove had the ten men of West End under pressure forcing keeper Gilbert to make several saves.

Cove’s Mitchell Chalmers levelled the score in fifty eight minutes when he ran on to a cross from Esson and pushed the ball under keeper Gilbert.

Cove went ahead in seventy one minutes when a fierce eighteen yard drive from Cove’s Craig Little gave keeper Gilbert no chance.

Cove’s Edward Esson was causing havoc every time he had the ball and his hard work was rewarded when he beat three men, passed to Martin Craig whose shot found the back of the net making the final score 3-1.
