Fyvie Clinch Bowie Cup Glory with 3-1 Victory Over Alford at Forgue Road
Fyvie lifted the Bowie Cup on a spirited afternoon at Forgue Road, home of Rothie Rovers JFC, defeating a strong Alford side 3-1 in an entertaining final.
The match began in dramatic fashion as Alford struck early, finding the back of the net just four minutes in to take a 1-0 lead. The goal seemed to wake Fyvie up, and after soaking up early pressure, they began to grow into the game. Their persistence was rewarded in the 38th minute when Matty Begg calmly slotted home the equaliser, ensuring the teams went into the break level at 1-1.
Fyvie emerged from the interval full of energy, and it wasn’t long before they made their mark. In the 53rd minute, Rafa Barbosa pounced to give Fyvie a 2-1 lead. From there, the match remained finely poised, with Alford pushing forward in search of an equaliser. But Fyvie’s defence held firm and, in the 90th minute, Tommy Gillan sealed the result with a late third, sparking celebrations from the Fyvie faithful.
It’s a fantastic achievement for Fyvie, who currently sit 12th in the Premier Division, making this cup triumph all the more impressive. Alford, who top Division One North and have already secured promotion to the Premier Division, will take heart from their early dominance but ultimately came up short against a Fyvie side who showed grit, discipline, and clinical finishing.
Congratulations to Fyvie — Bowie Cup Champions! 🏆
