North of Scotland Cup Third Round at Inverdee on Saturday 6th March

Both teams had to travel to Inverdee after Insch were forced to give up ground rights due to an unplayable pitch after the fixture had been postponed for the past two weeks. The ground staff at Inverdee have worked wonders this week to get the pitches playable.

Westdyke started with a run down the left and Insch keeper Errol Watson had to look sharp to save from Taylor. From a free kick to Insch in the fifth minute the ball was sent to the far post where Jaffrey slid in and made contact but the ball hit the outside of the post and went out of play.

In fifteen minutes a Westdyke move involving Bain, Stevenson and McKenzie let Ian Mckenzie drive the ball into the net from close range. Westdyke continued to push forward but could not add to the score before half time.

Half-time: 0-1

In the second period Insch’s keeper Watson made save after save keeping his team in the game. Westdyke’s McKenzie was causing havoc on the right wing, crossing the ball into his strikers who could not beat man of the match keeper Errol Watson.

In sixty three minutes Westdyke’s Doig should have scored but keeper Watson made yet another great save. Half way through the half Westdyke were awarded a disputed penalty which Ian McKenzie converted.

Westdyke finally sealed the game in eighty nine minutes when Andrew Connon managed to beat keeper Watson from four yards putting Westdyke into the fourth round of the North of Scotland Cup.
