1st Touch Football Division One (East) at Kaimhill on Saturday 19th February

This was one of only four games played in the Aberdeenshire AFA today and second and third placed in Division One (East) clashed, with both teams chasing the points to catch leaders Cove Thistle.

The game started in heavy rain and a strong wind blowing down the park at Blackburn’s back. Blackburn took advantage of this and had RGU pinned back in their own half for the first fifteen minutes but could not break through a packed RGU defence.

Against the run of play RGU’s Ian Campbell made a run from his own half, beat four men before slipping the ball past keeper Craig Hill to put RGU in front. RGU came more into the game and forced Blackburn’s keeper to make several saves.

In forty three minutes Blackburn were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty box taken by Michael Dunn who cleverly slipped the ball to Cameron Smith whose shot ended in the net making the half time score 1-1.

Half-time: 1-1

The second half started badly for Blackburn when in fifty four minutes Marc Duncan was sent off for a second yellow card offence. Five minutes later RGU’s Fraser Low beat the offside trap and with only the keeper to beat put his shot wide of the post.

Both teams were pushing for the goal to put them in front but excellent goalkeeping at both ends foiled the strikers.

RGU were taking advantage of the extra man and were playing good passing football but an on-form Blackburn keeper made save after save and in the dying minutes he made a double save from RGU’s Ian Campbell to keep the honours even at full time.
