Premier Division

Division One North

Division One East

Division Two North

Division Two East

Division Three

A total of 80 out of the 81 clubs who finished season 2008/09 have re-applied for membership of the Association in season 2009/10. The only club which has not re-applied for membership is Turriff Thistle.

In addition, four new clubs have applied for membership and a vote will be taken on their applications at the AGM on Thursday 2nd July. The new applicants are Grandholm, Torphins, West End Electrical and Westhill.

The fact that Bridge of Don and Sunnybank resigned from membership after the formation of the 2008/09 leagues means that an additional promotion place is available to the teams finishing in fourth place in the Second Division – Glendale Youth and Ellon Thistle are therefore promoted to the First Division. The resignation of Turriff Thistle led to a play-off match between the teams finishing in fifth place in the Second Division. Luthermuir defeated University Colts 2-0 in the play-off on 6th June and they are therefore promoted to the First Division.

The three additional promotion places which are available from the Third Division will be filled by St. Laurence, BSFC and Newburgh.

The likely composition of the leagues for season 2009/10, based on the guide set out on page 68 of the AAFA Handbook*, is shown below. Please note that this a provisional list and is subject to confirmation at the AGM on Thursday 2nd July.

* The teams finishing 11th, 12th and 13th in the First Division at the end of season 2009/09 have been allocated to the North and East sections in Division Two in accordance with the allocations which would have applied to the bottom three First Division teams in the event that the two First Division sections had a full complement of 14 teams. This is in accordance with the practice on the North/East allocation of relegated teams which has previously been adopted in the event that a league contains fewer than the standard number of teams at the end of a season. The teams relegated from Division One (North) are therefore placed in 2N (11th), 2E (12th) and 2N (13th) and the teams relegated from Division One (East) are placed in 2E (11th), 2N (12th) and 2E (13th).

The teams finishing in fourth position in Division Two in season 2008/09 are allocated to North and East sections in Division One alternately with the teams that have already been promoted. This is in accordance the practice on the North/East allocation of promoted teams which has previously been adopted in the event of two teams who finish in the same position in their respective Second Division sections each being awarded an additional promotion place. The fourth placed team in Division Two (North) (Glendale Youth) is therefore allocated to Division One (East), given that the first three teams are allocated to 1N (1st), 1E (2nd) and 1N (3rd). The fourth placed team in Division Two (East) (Ellon Thistle) is allocated to Division One (North) given that the first three teams are allocated to 1E (1st), 1N (2nd) and 1E (3rd).
