Results for 19th/20th September
Ellon Amateurs, BSFC and Mearns United all progressed in the Scottish Amateur Cup. In the Stephen Shield there were wins for Bucksburn United, Tarves and Beacon Rangers while FC Geldie went through in the White Cup. Grandholm and Westhill were winners in the Chattan Rovers Cup.
MS Utd 0 – 0 Great Western Utd
This game may have lacked goals but it did have several brilliant saves by MS United keeper Kevin Smith during the 120 minutes which he then followed up with a save at his left hand post in the shoot-out to allow his side to win 5-4 on spot kicks and progress to the second round of the Aberdeen FC Trophy.
Fixtures for 19th/20th September
Sportsmans Club and Old Aberdonians will meet in the final of the Ian Napier Memorial Shield. The game will be played at Denmore Park on Sunday, kick-off 2.00pm. On Saturday this season’s Scottish Amateur Cup gets underway with three north region first round ties, Ellon Amateurs v Halliburton, FC Polska v BSFC and United Services Glendale XI v Mearns United.
Results for 12th September
MS United, Bankhead and FC Geldie all made it through to the second round of the Aberdeen FC Trophy and Kincorth enjoyed a 4-1 win over Tarves in the Association Trophy. There were some high scoring divisional cup encounters with Mearns United edging out Continental by the odd goal in nine and Rattrays XI winning 6-4 against Trophies International at Heathryfold.
General Committee Meeting Dates
General Committee Meetings of all clubs will be held on Thursdays 3rd September 2009, 5th November 2009, 7th January 2010, 4th March 2010, 6th May 2010, 1st July 2010 (Annual General Meeting). All of the meetings will be held in the Richard Donald Stand at Pittodrie Stadium and commence at 7.30pm.
Fixtures for 12th Sept
The cup action continues next weekend with Fintray Thistle v FC Geldie, Lads Club Amateurs v Bankhead and MS United v Great Western Utd in the AFC Trophy. In the Association Trophy Kincorth host Tarves. Hazlehead Utd will be looking to stay at the top of the Division One (North) table when they take on Luthermuir while Woodside take their 100% record to Glendale in Division One (East).
AC Mill Inn 0 – 4 Cowie Thistle
Holders Cowie Thistle took on local rivals AC Mill Inn in this Association Trophy First Round derby match at Stonehaven. Cowie were one up at the break thanks to a Robert Day goal. A brace from Martin McLean and a strike from Ross Abernethy gave the visitors a 4-0 win in a game which was closely fought, depite the scoreline.
Results for 5th September
Cowie Thistle ran out 4-0 winners against AC Mill Inn in the Association Trophy. Don Athletic progressed to the second round of the Dickie Trophy after beating Auchnagatt Barons 3-1. In the Premier Trophy Echt got the better of Bon Accord City and in the Stephen Shield Ellon Thistle defeated Newtonhill. Rothie Rovers won their first round tie in the Castle Rovers Cup as did Potterton in the Barclay Cook Cup.
Cup Draws made on 3rd September
The draws for the second round of the Aberdeen FC Trophy, the Association Trophy and the Dickie Trophy were made at the Executive Committee meeting on Thursday 3rd September. The Association and Dickie Trophies have been kindly sponsored by Colin’s One Stop Motor Shop this season.
Torphins 0 – 3 Portlethen Utd
A fine second half hat-trick from Jordan Gray gave Portlethen Utd a comfortable 3-0 win away from home against Torphins at Kincardine O’Neil. The three points gives Portlethen a record of 3 wins and 3 defeats while Torphins have a win and 3 draws from their seven Division Three games so far.
