Results for 31st January
AC Mill Inn’s run in the Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup came to an end as they lost 1-0 at home to Clark Drive. Postal ALC knocked holders Cove Thistle out of the North of Scotland Amateur Cup with a 5-3 win at Catto Park and Hilton scored seven against ARI Thistle to set up a semi-final meeting with Highland Hotel in the Chattan Rovers Cup.
RGU 5 – 1 MS United
With New Advocates Park unplayable due to the overnight frost this Division One (North) encounter was switched to RGU’s all-weather surface at Garthdee. MS United went into the game hoping to build on a fine 6-2 victory over Grammar Rovers last weekend while their hosts were looking to get their promotion challenge back on track after suffering successive league defeats against Sportsmans Club and Turriff Thistle.
Fixtures for 31st January
AC Mill Inn host Clark Drive in the sixth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup and Cove Thistle continue their defence of the North of Scotland Amateur Cup when they welcome Postal ALC to Catto Park. In Division Three, leaders Highland Hotel can expect a tough game against Mearns United who will be defending the Association’s only remaining unbeaten league record.
Results for 24th January
The severe overnight frost had a major impact on the fixture programme with only four games going ahead. Echt recorded a 4-2 win against Dumbarton Academy FPs to reach the sixth round of the Scottish Amateur Cup, AC Mill Inn and Hazlehead United both progressed in the North of Scotland Amateur Cup and RGU defeated MS United in Division One (North).
Scottish Amateur Cup Sixth Round
The draw for the sixth round of the Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup was made in Dunblane on 17th January. AC Mill Inn have been handed a home tie against Clark Drive of the Ayrshire Premier Division, who defeated Kintore in the fourth round of the competition. If Echt can make it past Dumbarton Academy FPs in their delayed fifth round encounter then they will have home advantage against the either the cup holders Eddlewood or Castlemilk in the last 32.
Johnshaven Ath 4 – 1 Glentanar Reflex
Both teams arrived knowing that three points were essential to help avoid a relegation battle for the rest of the season. It was a cold and blustery day with the recent heavy downpours making the pitch heavy and slippery underfoot. Hudson was on target for the visitors but goals from Dundas, Philip, Buist and Welsh secured victory for Johnshaven in a hard fought encounter.
Fixtures for 24th January
Echt travel to face Dumbarton Accies in the Scottish Amateur Cup and there are a number of third round ties in the North of Scotland Amateur Cup including Dyce against Sportsmans Club and Stonehaven Athletic versus Glendale XI. In league action, Mearns United’s unbeaten record in Division Three will be put to the test when they visit joint leaders Highland Hotel.
Results for 17th January
AC Mill Inn made it through to the sixth round of the Fosters Centenary Scottish Amateur Cup with a fine 4-1 win against Addiewell Hearts. Halliburton and University both enjoyed wins in the Saltire Fashions North of Scotland Amateur Cup and Cowie Thistle defeated Kincorth to book their place in the semi-finals of the Aberdeen FC Trophy.
Association Medal awarded to Ian Birnie
The Association Medal for 2008 has been awarded to Ian Birnie of Ellon Thistle. Ian was nominated for the award by John Irvine of Bucksburn United. Ellon Thistle celebrated their 40th anniversary last summer and the Medal was presented to Ian in recognition of the outstanding service which he has given to the club over 40 years.
Torry Utd 1 – 1 Glendale XI
Torry United and Glendale XI are both well placed for promotion from Division One (East) and both were able to field strong teams for this league encounter at Tullos. A draw was a fair result in the terrible conditions with Banks on target for Glendale XI and Innes scoring the equaliser for the home side.
