Fitness Regime Pays Off For United Goalie Chris

Manager’s praise for ‘one of the best in leagues’

Report by Andy McLaren

MS United goalkeeper Chris Scouller believes his new fitness regime has transformed him into a better player.

The Seaton side’s stopper has been one of United’s best players so far this term after shedding four stones during pre-season.

Now he wants a campaign to remember after he was ruled out of MS United’s only other Premier Division season in 2008 with knee ligament damage.

And Chris, who has spent 11 seasons with the Aberdeen outfit, believes he is in the best form of his career following his recent weight loss programme.

He said: “I wanted to feel better about myself and I’m now sharper than ever before. Losing four stones has meant I’m getting to shots I wouldn’t have dreamed of saving before.”

MS United are one of the strongest teams in Amateur football and lifted the Division One (North) crown last season.

They recently clinched the Ian Napier Memorial Shield to record their first cup win since 1976.

United are also in the quarter-finals of the Aberdeen FC Trophy and Association Cup.

MS now have 21 signed players at the club, meaning competition for places is fierce.

They sit sixth in Amateur football’s top flight, their highest position in over six years.

Manager Alan Stables played in the same team as Chris more than eight years ago. He is aiming to win the Premier Division as a player and a manger, having lifted the trophy with Hilton in 2000.

Alan, who is currently in his fourth season at the helm, praised his goalkeeper’s recent form.
Alan said: “Chris is now one of the best goalkeepers in Amateur football.

“The amount of points he has saved us over the last few years has been unbelievable. Chris is a relatively small goalkeeper but he now rarely makes a mistake.”
