Former Celtic youngster Gianpiero Franchi today admitted he’s determined to use his Italian skills to fire RGU to silver this season.

The university side suffered their first league loss after a recent surprise 3-1 defeat to Blackburn.

Gray’s School of Art student Gianpiero has spent three seasons with RGU, but has yet to win a league title at Amateur level.

The striker, of Italian origin, believes this will be the year when the students lift the Division One (East) crown.

He said: “The reason I stay at the club is because we play attacking football. Nothing beats the atmosphere of playing for RGU.

“We should really be getting promoted and I’m confident we can do that.”

Born in Edinburgh, the 21-year-old moved to Aberdeen three years ago.

The Italian ace, who also had a spell with Spartans, has already hit the back of the net 19 times in all competitions this season.

RGU are currently top of Division One (East) and have scored 62 goals.

And Gianpiero today warned rival clubs the impressive goalscoring form will not stop.

“We have been in fantastic form recently,” he said.

“I want to aim for higher achievements which is why we are determined to win the Premier Division if we gain promotion.

“Fingers crossed we can finally fulfil our potential as one of the strongest teams in Amateur football.”
