Lawrence Has Scored 165 Goals So Far

University striker David Lawrence today admitted he is determined to score his way into the Amateur football record books following an impressive start to the season.
The economics and finance student has netted 165 goals in 4 years to make him one of the most talented strikers in the Amateur leagues.
David’s goals have helped his Aberdeen side to recently win promotion to the top University league in Scotland while also finishing runners-up in the Premier Division.
The strike ace has already struck 10 times in only 8 appearances this term, having scored against Highland League side Fraserburgh in the Aberdeenshire Shield last week.
And David, who is from Dorset in England, hopes he can round off his final year at Uni in style by becoming one of Amateur football’s most prolific ever goalscorers.
He said: “My main aim is to get to 200 goals which would be a great achievement in my last year at University.
“Football is a team effort and we have had some fantastic players in previous years which have provided me with the service to score goals.
“I have had a fantastic time in the Amateur leagues and now I really want to go out on a high by winning a trophy.”
David was influential in helping his side lift the John Todd Memorial Trophy, Frank Waugh Shield and the University Division 2 League title in 2012.
The 23-year-old has previously played for clubs including Portsmouth and Dorchester Town in the English Conference League.
University, who formed in 1889, also compete in the Aberdeenshire Development League, playing against some of the Highland League’s best young talent.
And the striker admits he is aiming to catch the eye of some of the finest North-east clubs by continuing to score goals at Amateur level.
“I have had offers to join clubs but my education always takes priority,” said David.
“It looks like I will be moving to Dubai due to work commitments.
“My aim has always been to end up playing at the Highland League or at an equivalent standard in England.
“You never know what the future holds so hopefully I can make it at a decent level after University finishes next year.”
The Aberdeen side have won both their opening league matches after wins over Insch and Kincorth.
Despite almost becoming the best University team in Scotland, the students had a disappointing season last term, finishing 24 points adrift of champions Sportsmans.
But David believes his squad are capable of mounting a serious challenge to the very best Amateur football has to offer this season.
He said: “Every season we tend to have a lot of people leaving and a variety of players joining so we basically have to start all over again”.
“Last season we had a golden generation of players at the club but we badly let ourselves down in the Amateur leagues.
“The squad are always so close to winning the Premier Division but we never seem to do it.
“We have a lot of experienced players now and we are looking to win the league this season.”
